Pump.fun’s BOOST mode turns dead liquidity into buying pressure and burns for new memecoins

Solana’s thriving memecoin launchpad Pump.fun has rolled out a new default mechanism called BOOST mode that automatically recycles what the platform calls “dead liquidity” into token buybacks and burns. The change is designed to improve capital efficiency for newly launched tokens by pulling otherwise trapped liquidity into active market demand.

Under the previous migration model, a sizable portion of liquidity-roughly one‑fifth of the total-remained locked inside the liquidity pool after a token graduated from the bonding curve. Although this preserved a trading base, the locked Solana or USDC could never be withdrawn or redeployed, even after all holders sold their positions. Pump.fun estimates that more than a hundred million dollars of capital sits idle in such pools each year, effectively reducing the platform’s capital productivity.

BOOST mode addresses this inefficiency by redirecting a portion of the locked funds-about 17.6 SOL for SOL pairs or roughly 2,516 USDC for USDC pairs-into a series of market purchases executed over the first five minutes after migration. The protocol uses a Time‑Weighted Average Price strategy to 圣 reduce slippage and to spread the impact of the buy orders. Once the purchases are complete, every acquired token is immediately burned, permanently removing it from circulation.

By combining temporary buying pressure with a reduction in circulating supply, BOOST mode creates a virtuous cycle that benefits both token holders and the broader ecosystem. The immediate burn reduces dilution, while the buy orders provide a price floor that can help stabilize the token’s early market. Importantly, the mechanism does not introduce new liquidity or external capital; it simply repurposes liquidity that would otherwise remain dormant.

For creators, the feature is enabled automatically for all eligible tokens once they launch on Pump.fun. No manual activation is required, and traders experience no change in the bonding curve interface or trading experience. The platform’s decision to make BOOST mode the default migration mechanism reflects a commitment to maximizing capital efficiency across its ecosystem.

Within the broader Solana memecoin ecosystem, this development is timely. The rapid rise of meme‑based projects has created a high demand for launchpads that can offer both liquidity and tokenomics that support sustainable growth. By turning dead liquidity into a source of demand, Pump.fun positions itself as a forward‑thinking platform that aligns creator incentives with long‑term market stability.

While the strategy appears sound, potential risks remain. If a token’s demand is weaker than anticipated, the burn could accelerate price volatility. Additionally, the reliance on a TWAP strategy assumes sufficient market depth to absorb the buy orders without significant slippage. Nevertheless, the concept of converting stranded liquidity into active market demand is a compelling innovation that could set a new standard for launchpad design.

In summary, Pump.fun’s BOOST mode represents a novel approach to liquidity management that turns dead capital into a catalyst for price support and supply reduction. By automating this process for all Fourn’s eligible tokens, the platform enhances capital efficiency while preserving the trading experience for both creators and traders.
